It is January 2019, and we are in the middle of the “Start Me Up HK Festival” here in Hong Kong. The “Start Me Up” week is focussed on business creation and entrepreneurship. Headlined by “Jumpstarter”, by Alibaba Entrepreneurs Fund, it connects start-ups, corporates and investors in order to inspire the next generation of technological innovations in Hong Kong.
If you are in Sweden and wish you had been here, fear not – just after Chinese New Year, when Hong Kong does take a very short rest, we are up again with the “Hong Kong Blockchain Week” followed “event by event” and “week by week” until we reach RISE by Web Summit in July. Hong Kong is the city that almost never sleeps, and where business is done literally 24 hours a day, and Ripple Effect is at the heart of it!
Founded in Hong Kong in August 2016, Ripple Effect Consultancy (REC) is run by myself and Margret Leung. We are passionate about technology and work with a handful of brilliant tech companies from around the world in the space of cloud computing including ITaaS, Cybersecurity, and online payments. We combine cutting edge technology with traditional market intelligence to help our clients succeed in Hong Kong and APAC.
As one of the freest economies globally, Hong Kong is a great place to achieve this. It is not complicated to “land” your business here and Hong Kong is also a natural starting point for expanding into the mainland and the APAC region. In 2018 the new high-speed train between Hong Kong and the mainland was inaugurated and now it only takes “15 minutes of travel” time between Hong Kong and the Futian business district in downtown Shenzhen.
Just like getting on that train, it is relatively easy to establish yourself in Hong Kong. Almost everyone is open to doing business and, in our experience, is keen to talk about how “you” and “they” could work together and find synergies.
With that in mind Ripple Effect has partnered with Startup Grind in Hong Kong. Jens Wernborg is one of the founders and partners of Ripple Effect Consultancy Limited in Hong Kong. He is a trained civil engineer from KTH (Royal Institute of Technology) in Sweden with a mix of IT and programming skills. Having worked and lived in Hong Kong, Guangzhou, Mumbai, and Taipei, Jens has over twenty years of management and business consulting experience in APAC.
Margaret Leung became a partner of Ripple Effect Consultancy Limited since June 2017. She has more than twenty years of experience in Hong Kong and Greater China assisting foreign companies in their decision making and new business development on entering a new market.
