New eyeopeners – Bangladesh and Myanmar
Sweden on the Go’s digital networking meeting on October 16, focused on Bangladesh and Myanmar. Although the two countries are worlds apart when it comes to history, culture and religion, they have a few areas which unite. Both countries offer eyeopeners for exploring new business opportunities. Both countries were prior to Covid-19, seeing promising economic growth and pro-business reform. The countries are both, albeit from different levels, prioritizing industrial diversification and broad based growth. Strategically they serve as gateways to the ASEAN markets.
Mizanur Khan from Bangladesh Business tells how Bangladesh is developing its industry sucessfully beyond garments and textiles to include IT, green technology, foodprocessing, lifescience and more. He has a long background from representing Swedish businessin the region and now runs his international consultancy with offices in Dhaka and Stockholm. The consultancy focuses on business development between the Nordics and Bangladesh. Vijay Dhayal, originally from India, started his international consultancy, New Crossroads Asia Myanmar, five years ago in Myanmar. During these years he has seen an extraordinary transformation of the economy and the work force. Vijay also points to the remarkable reforms the country has done between 2016 to 2020 in order to make it easier to do business. This has attracted investment not only from large foreign corporations but also smaller companies from the region. Among the key sectors attracting investment are energy and power, oil and gas, infrastructure and garments.
